4 (2) - 12 deg C, fine and very sunny with a very chilly breeze
We didn't venture out until well after 7am as it was a tad chilly here at Wilpena. One downside to coming away in winter is that the day is half over by the time the temperature resembles anything half decent and that you feel like getting out and doing anything.
We
had an early mornos before setting off on our walk to the Homestead and Wangara
Lookout. We had done the Homestead walk on our previous visit and knew it would
be quite tame in comparison to the Mt Ohlssen-Bagge hike that G&Y were
doing (we did this hike two years ago as well). What we hadn't done before was
the lookout and Wendy now understands why. We had done the Mt O-B hike the day
before and Wendy found the rather tame walk to the Homestead quite difficult so
had obviously said to Greg that he could do it on his own. He probably declined
for much the same reason as Wendy, truth be known?!
Anyway, the view from the lookout was fantastic; not quite as high as Mt O-B, but provided much the same view. On the way up the climb, Wendy stopped off at the half way outlook which also had a pretty good view. The whole walk was an 8km round trip.
Back at the van, neither of us were that hungry so had a few nuts and yogurt and then went for another walk out to the Wilpena Solar Power Station. Even though we had also done this on our bikes on our previous visit, we needed to do the walk to stretch the legs. We saw an emu and many kangaroos.
Not long after our return from the solar farm, Y&G returned from their hike. Greg borrowed a small head screwdriver from Gunther to try and fix the blind on his window. It goes up, but does not like to come back down! We were trying to re-tension the spring, but it didn't work. We had early pre-dinner drinks just as the sun was disappearing behind the mountains and were back in the van before it got bitterly cold.
After dinner Wendy updated the blog and Greg watched the movie "The Red Baron".
