After a not as chilly start, we had breakfast and then Gunther topped up our water tanks; 1. so we had full tanks coming into Coober Pedy and 2. so he didn't have to cart it all the way thereby reducing his fuel consumption. We are very grateful that Y&G have this ability to cart water and are willing to share it. Here in CP, you have to pay for water - $1 for 40 litres!
We had morning tea at the Tarcoonyinna Rest Area - a large gravel bowl with a very lazy wind - again! It wasn't long before we were on the road again. We stopped at Marla for G&Y to refuel enough to get to CP. We had lunch shortly after in another gravel bowl before heading to CP.
We arrived at Opal Inn Hotel/Motel and Caravan Park about 2:45pm and settled into site #21. G&Y joined us not long after. We had an afternoon cuppa before hitting the big smoke of CP. It took us all of about 30 minutes to walk the town and that was a very slow walk. Every second building is an opal shop/jewellery store, with every third building being an underground cafe, museum, hotel, back packers, pub, etc.
Back at the vans it was time for a bit of admin prior to pre-dinner drinks and then a very short stroll to the Chinese restaurant for quite an expensive dinner. Back home it was time for a shower in the communal amenities to save van water. In previous years one had to pay to have a shower but they are now free, which is a bonus. Whilst the shower was nice and hot, there was not a lot of water. But, we managed to get clean.
