1 (feels like -3) - 18 deg C
We didn't get out of bed until almost 7am because it was so cold. And then, when Greg did get up to light the fire, it wouldn't light! So, he decided he would have a brew and put the gas stove on which warmed the van about 0.5 of a degree! By the time we had finished breakfast it was about 8:30am.
This morning we thought our fridge had carked it. The bread was thawed and the meat and fish were starting to thaw as well. When we checked the fridge, everything was warmer to the touch than it should have been. Before going to bed last night Wendy had turned the gas setting on the fridge to a medium setting instead of Hi thinking that as it was going to get pretty cool, we didn't need to waste gas. However, it turned out that as the ambient temperature was now colder than the fridge, the fridge didn't think it had to turn on and do its' job. Lesson learned, well hopefully that was all it was (it was working well when we got home from our days' activities).
We did the Olgas today aka Kata Tjuta. This series of Rocks is very different to Uluru in that it is made up of a number of smaller rocks all melded together by another hard substance. We both thought it is much more picturesque than the Big Rock as it is a series of rocks and you can walk through them, which we did. The walk up the gorge to the Karingana Lookout was particularly stunning. 8km took about 2 hours and that included a lunch stop. Greg could have done it much quicker but he waited for Wendy at crucial points.
After returning to the van park, we took our toilet to the dump point. We then went to the only supermarket in Ayers Rock and it was absolutely packed with tourists and locals. However, the queues moved quickly. Back home it was time to refill the water tanks before Gunther refilled the tank in his truck.
We had pre-dinner drinks with G&Y and after dinner we settled in to watch the third State of Origin; neither of us like our (QLD) chances though.
