Day 48: Tue 10 Jul – Ayers Rock

1 (feels like -2) - 19 (feels like 13) deg C!

It was a tad cool this morning so Greg lit the 'fire' and jumped back into bed. After the house had warmed up a bit, we hopped out of bed and quickly into our warm clothes (we had them in bed with us).

We did Uluru today. We drove out to the Mala car park, unloaded the bikes and off we went. For the first 5km we encountered hordes of tourists and a fair bit of loose red dust/sand both of which made riding a tad difficult at various times. We got to the half way mark and had lunch - peanut butter and honey sandwiches, not the ideal diet but handy. The second half of the track was easy - less tourists and no loose dust/sand. This side of the rock was less interesting hence the not so many tourists. On the way back to the van park we stopped in at the Cultural Centre which Greg thought was OK.

Back at the van we relaxed for a while and then Greg took the bikes off the truck and put them back on the caravan and Wendy made another batch of pumpkin soup, this time with garlic, turmeric and ginger. Doesn't smell quite as nice, so we hope it tastes better.

We went out to Uluru again about an hour before sunset to the 'Sunset Car Park'. G&Y said that this was a must do. There was a fire somewhere which may have hindered the colours of the Rock from really showing during the sunset. We did however, see it change colour very slightly over the hour and a half we were there, or perhaps that was the wine? You judge. The colours the previous night were possibly better.

Off to the Olgas tomorrow so a relatively early night.
