Day 13: Tue 5 Jun – Charters Towers to Townsville

Drive: 130km; Total towed: 1433km

3-27 deg C

We left Charters Towers at 9:15am, 15 minutes later than our SDT. We stopped about 55km up the road at the Reid River Rest Stop for mornos - the same place we stopped at for lunch three days earlier on our way to CT from Ravenswood. We were in no hurry as we only had less than 100km to do to get to Townsville.

As we were driving into Townsville we both realised that this was where we were engaged some 24 years ago. Wow, it has been that long since we have been back to Townsville and a lot has changed.

We arrived and were set up on site #57 at the Walkabout Palms Townsville Caravan Park just a smidge past midday. After lunch, Wendy was all set for an LLD, but was waylaid when Susan came by and said they were going to ride into town and along The Strand. So, onto the bikes it was. We stopped off at the Crusader (really nice vans) and New Age (not so nice) caravan dealerships along the way, and then made our way onto the Strand for a leisurely ride. It was a really nice day to do it as well.

As we had some grocery shopping to do, we left Sue and Mark and hot footed it home. A quick change of clothes and we were in the truck hitting the shops. We didn't get back until just before 6pm and unpacked the supplies, overloaded the fridge, cooked dinner and ate it in the camp kitchen with the others.
