8 (feels like 5) - 19 deg C
Show Day today! But first, we had to move to a new site. Due to lack of planning, we were only able to get three nights on the one powered site, even though we wanted five nights. The unavailability of sites was mainly due to the Alice Springs Show being on this weekend, but also due to it being school holidays in QLD and NT. We were somewhat unreliably informed that school holidays have no effect on caravan park availability at this time of year so we didn't pre-book until it was too late. Anyway, we moved at 10am from site #328 to #332 which took all of about an hour from the time of deconstruction to a full reconstruction.
We had a quick mornos before heading off on the bikes to the Alice Springs Show which was about a 1km ride away. We arrived about 11am and planned to stay and watch the Grand Parade at the end of the day. So, how does one pass three and a half hours at a show; very painfully it has to be said. Well, it wasn't all that bad for the first two hours and then it got very tiresome. We walked the side-show alley more than a number of times, the food 'court' and the pavilions a number of times. We came away with a few freebies - new water bottles, caps (because we really need them?), pens and beanies (and we really do need these!). For lunch we decided we just had to have a Dagwood dog each as we had not had one for a very long time. Well, Wendy was sadly disappointed whilst Greg was quite delighted! Half of Wendy's dog went into the bin. Just before settling in to watch the Grand Parade we purchased ice-creams from Mr Nippy which were quite good. Prior to the Grand Parade starting, we were treated to a show by the Rooftop Express, and whilst the antics did go on a bit, the end result was quite outstanding. To get a horse to climb a set of stairs up onto the roof of a semi-trailer is one thing, but to get a couple of cattle to do the same is quite another. The Grand Parade that followed was a tad disappointing.
The temperature did not go above 19 deg C all day as there was a lazy breeze blowing and by the time the Grand Parade had ended we were very ready to head home. Wendy had an LLD whilst Greg relaxed and had a shower in preparation for the night.
We joined
Y&G at their caravan for pre-dinner drinks and a jolly good chat about all
things in general. Had it not been so cold and we had not run out of wine, we
may have stayed longer.
Good advice
