2 (feels like -2!) - 26 deg C, sunny, clear blue skies
Wendy was up before the sparrows this morning to get some washing done before the rest of the washing machines became all tied up. Two loads later, and there were still only two other machines (out of 10) in use. The other reason to get in early was we had planned to ride out to the Alice Springs Desert Park with G&Y, leaving at 9am. As most of the washing was dry, Wendy brought it in before we left to make room on the line for the others.
We left a
bit before 9am and it was probably just as well as we made it in time for the 10am
free flying bird show. What a show it was. Started with Kites, then Falcon,
Barn Owl, and finished with the Wedgetail Eagle. It was then time for mornos in
the cafe before wandering around the rest of the park. The Desert Park has a 54-hectare
core area with about 3km of walking tracks. There are many bird enclosures, a
nocturnal house, and separate dingo, kangaroo (red) and emu enclosures. We also
watched a movie; a 4500-million-year journey through the creation of
Australia's deserts which was ok. After the bird show, the next best thing was
the nocturnal house.
We were home a little late for lunch but had it anyway and then went shopping for groceries and wine. Dinner was a little later than usual due to our late arrival home from shopping and having pre-dinner drinks with Y&G.
After dinner we attended the Red Centre Show: local Australian Geographic photographer and singer-songwriter Barry Skipsey presented his unique audio-visual show consisting of 400 images of Central Australia on the big screen accompanied by his live singing. Some were his own songs, some were others' songs but done very well. This entertainment was put on by the Park.
