Day 1: Thu 24 May – Hippo Farm to Calliope

Drive: 255km

After a final pack of the van and securing the house, we left five minutes ahead of our planned departure time of 9am. Soon after we left we had a look on Life360 and saw that Mark and Sue were on the move as well, but Gunther and Yvonne were still at home. Our first planned stop was at Apple Tree Creek for mornos. M&S arrived just as we were walking out the van with coffees in hand, and Y&G not long after them. We had our coffees and muesli bars under a picnic shelter, chatted for a bit, then continued our journey.

Next stop was at our final destination for the day - Calliope Rest Area (North). We found a suitable area, drove in, set up and had lunch. Unfortunately, M&S were not able to get a spot next to us, but are only one site up. Lunch was followed by a short LLD/relax.  We then went for a wander around the South rest area, followed by bubbles on the river - Sue had been given a bottle of bubbles with instructions it was only to be drunk whilst sitting under a tree overlooking a river.
